The seat upgrade for the rest of us. You're either configuring your first Vyper chair right now and wondering if your frame's going to fit comfortably on a 14-inch round seat, or you've owned the chair for a while and your hips are hanging off the edges by hour two. Either way, the answer is the same. The Big Boy attachment adds 7 inches of seat width and a thick steel base plate that turns the standard chair into the seat that actually fits.
It's not just for big guys, either. Plenty of average-frame buyers add the Big Boy because the wider seat means you don't have to center yourself perfectly when you sit down, you've got more leverage to push off when standing, and the chair feels even more rock-solid underneath you.
Fits: All Robust Steel Max and Elevated Steel Max models, and Robust Steel Pro
Pairs Well With: Adjustable Armrest for the most comfortable Vyper build possible.
Not compatible with the Sidekick
This is only the attachment, not the entire chair

ARE A BIG GUY AND TIRED OF SEATS THAT AREN'T BUILT FOR YOU
Most shop chairs are sized for an average frame and you've spent decades sitting on the edges. The Big Boy adds 7 inches of seat width so you can actually sit on the chair instead of perched on it. Reviewers at 6'4" 400 lbs, 6'6" 300 lbs, and every size up tell us the same thing: it's the first shop seat that actually fits. The chair built for the rest of us.
ARE AVERAGE FRAME AND JUST WANT THE CHAIR TO FEEL MORE SOLID
A real pattern in our reviews: customers who aren't actually "big guys" buying the Big Boy anyway. The reasons keep coming up. The thick steel base plate adds weight and stability you can feel under you. The wider seat means you don't have to center yourself perfectly to sit down. The extra surface gives you better leverage when you lean or reach. It's not a big-guy upgrade, it's a chair upgrade that big guys also need.
ARE GETTING OLDER AND NEED HELP PUSHING YOURSELF UP TO STAND
A real pattern in our reviews: older buyers and customers with mobility limitations explicitly mention the Big Boy as the upgrade that lets them keep using the chair safely. The wider seat gives you a wider surface to push off when standing up. The extra stability gives you confidence the chair won't shoot out from under you when you're getting in or out. The accessory that turns the chair from "I'll need help getting out of this" to "I've got it."
VALUE COMFORT OVER SAVING A COUPLE HUNDRED BUCKS
Real talk from our reviews: buyers consistently spend weeks talking themselves into the Big Boy after already spending $600+ on the chair. The math feels weird. You just spent serious money on a chair, why spend another $200? Then they install it and immediately wish they'd added it to the original order. Comfort isn't a one-time decision, it's something you feel every single time you sit down for the next ten years. Saving $200 today costs you a decade of "I should've gotten the Big Boy." The buyers who add it to the order don't write that review. The buyers who didn't, do.

Unsure if the BIG BOY ATTACHMENT is right for you?

Purchased the Big Boy attachment for the taller seat also along with the adjustable backrest. Perfect king’s throne for the shop, just got to keep others out of it now. Planning to purchase the Big Boy attachment for the shorter seat will be a nice add on. Very happy with my choices.
Great customer service! I originally had called with a warranty issue, (the locking mechanism to position the the seat height had worn out), but the customer service person was so nice I ordered an upgrade for my chair!
When I described my chair problem the technician quickly understood and offered sending the replacement parts needed. Then when I considered buying the upgrade parts, he offered to send everything without charging for shipping.
You guys make great products and take good care of your customers after the sale.
It's a real plus that, when calling customer service, I spoke to an agent in the United States. Also a big plus, I'm proud to say your products are made in America! By the way, my co-workers at Honeywell Aerospace are very envious of my chair. In fact, my shop purchased several Viper chairs since I purchased mine.
I already mentioned this in my initial post, but the additional comfort provided by "The Big Boy" seat cushion extension is phenomenal if you spend considerable time seated while working on lengthy projects.
Great chair rolls around perfect in my shop. Glad I ordered the big boy attachment. That makes a huge difference now you got comfort for all day sitting.
Fits like a glove and I love the extra room. Had a friend that was doing some work here and he weighs a little over 300 lbs and he was in love with it and he loves the way it moves around.
Great products, the big boy seat ( I'm not a Big Boy 6' 185) is a must no matter what size you are. If you don't get the tool tray you'll regret it later. I regret not ordering mine with the higher back rest. Overall this chair will last a lifetime and be handed down for generations .
Thank you Vyper for building a quality product made in the USA.
Wheels squeal a little, back hurts after sitting on and working on vehicles almost all day. Back rest could be alot bigger for the price. Otherwise ok.
I added the Big Boy attachment to my Vyper chair, and I honestly wish I had ordered it from the start. The extra width makes a huge difference in comfort, especially during long hours in the garage. I no longer feel like I’m balancing on the edge of the seat, and getting up is much easier thanks to the added stability.
The build quality is exactly what I’ve come to expect from Vyper heavy duty, solid, and clearly made to last. Installation was straightforward, and it fit my chair perfectly. The wider steel base gives the chair an even more stable feel when I’m leaning or reaching for tools.
If you’re a larger person, or even if you just want a more comfortable and confidence-inspiring seat, this upgrade is worth every penny. It transformed an already great chair into the most comfortable shop seat I’ve ever owned. Highly recommended!
I know people that buy these chairs are mechanically inclined but I thought the instruction could have been better illustrated. I bought the chair and arm rests, then added the adjustable back rest and later bought the big boy seat. Just review the instruction with someone on staff that is not handy and see what they see as a challenge?
My husband has been wanting the Vyper chair for his knife shop but would not get it for himself. I went and brought it for him to surprise him. He loves it and can’t wait to start using it! The chair was easy to assemble and the adjustable height will make it easy for him to transition to his different work areas.
I really didn't need the big boy attachment, but the extra room to move and not be on the edge is excellent. I would recommend anyone buying a Viper shop chair to get the extra. It is well worth it.
PUT IT ALL TOGETHER YESTERDAY...BEST GARAGE/ SHOP CHAIR EVER...SMOOTHLY ROLLS OVER THE FLOOR AND EASILY ADJUSTS FOR THE PERFECT HEIGHT FOR MY PROJECTS...
This is a very nice addition to my original stool, both for comfort and safety when you go to sit down. I had a couple of close calls and at 79 your recovery muscles are not as strong and fast as 25.
My chair came without the big seat. Was ordered just a week behind. To me it is so much more comfortable with the larger seat. Do not have to sit right in the center, can be off to the side. Highly recommend it for anyone.
The standard seat is very nice, but just a little too narrow for me. (6'-1", 250 lbs) Ordered the big boy extension, and now it is like a couch! Still small enough to maneuver and work with but super comfortable. Very well built too just like the chair itself. This extension uses a steel plate for support and it is a STOUT system. They are pricey, but the quality really is top notch.
The seat is amazing on its own with the extend seat it’s even better. It like your in a nice padded chair not a shop stool. It would be amazing if you added a bigger back rest.
Adjustable Backrest: Replaces the stock backrest with a 10° tilt and 4" of height adjustment, for buyers who want to dial in lumbar support exactly.
Adjustable Armrest: A solid grip for sitting down and standing up, and most importantly, to improve posture / stability.
Big Boy: Adds 7" of seat width, for larger frame buyers or anyone who wants more room and stability.
Tool Tray: Bolts to the underside of the chair to hold sockets, loose bolts, and shop rags.
Sidekick: Side-mounted attachment with cup holders, a tool holder, and storage for spray bottles, polishers, and shop towels.
All accessories are made in Green Bay, Wisconsin and ship with the same warranty and 30-day guarantee as the chairs themselves.
What's the difference between the Sidekick and the Tool Tray, and do I need both?
TheSidekick mounts on the side of the chair for what you're actively using (spray bottles, polishers, microfibers, a cold drink), while the Tool Tray bolts underneath for what you've already used or what might fall (loose bolts, dropped sockets, shop rags, small parts).
They're built to work together, not against each other. Detailers and fabricators who run the Complete Package (Robust Steel Max + Tool Tray + Sidekick) consistently say the two-accessory combo turns the chair into a real mobile workstation. Sidekick at hand for the polisher you're using right now, Tool Tray below for the spent microfibers and parts. If you can only pick one, the Tool Tray is the accessory most buyers later say they wish they'd added from day one.
Can I use the Big Boy and the Sidekick together on the same chair?
No. The Big Boy and the Sidekick cannot be installed on the same chair, they mount in the same location and you have to pick one. Our specialists at (920) 301-3822 can walk you through the right choice if you're not sure.
The decision is usually clean. If you're a larger-frame buyer (or an older buyer wanting more leverage when standing), get the Big Boy. If you're a detailer, fabricator, or anyone who works with supplies at the seat all day, get the Sidekick. The Adjustable Backrest, Adjustable Armrest, and Tool Tray all work with either choice, so you don't lose any other accessories by picking one over the other.
Is the Adjustable Backrest worth the upgrade over the stock backrest?
For most buyers, the stock backrest is built right and works exactly as designed. The Adjustable Backrest is the upgrade for the buyer who lives in the chair, taller height range, up to 10° of recline, and the ability to dial in the support position to your specific body and the way you actually work.
Roughly half of buyers add it during initial chair configuration. The other half buy it months later, after deciding they want to fine-tune the backrest position even further. Reviewers consistently describe it as the upgrade that turns the chair from "comfortable" into "I never want to get up." Compatible with the Robust Steel Max and Elevated Steel Max chairs, and pairs with either the Big Boy or the Sidekick.
Who should buy the Big Boy attachment?
The Big Boy adds 7" of additional seat width, built for two specific buyers: larger-frame customers (280 lbs and up, or anyone who finds the standard seat too narrow) and older buyers who want more leverage when sitting down and standing up.
Reviewers consistently call it a confidence upgrade. The wider seat means you don't have to perfectly center yourself when sitting, and the wider surface gives you something to push off when standing. It's the most-recommended upgrade in the Vyper review base for buyers in their 60s, 70s, and 80s. Available on all Vyper chairs except the Low-Pro and Robust Steel Sport. Cannot be combined with the Sidekick.
Can I add Vyper accessories to a chair I already own?
Yes. Every Vyper accessory is designed to bolt onto chairs already in your shop, you don't have to buy them at the same time as the chair. Roughly half of buyers add accessories during the initial chair configuration. The other half buy them weeks or months later, after deciding what they actually need.
The Tool Tray, Sidekick, Big Boy, Adjustable Backrest, and Adjustable Armrest all install with basic hand tools and ship with instructions and hardware included. If you bought your Vyper chair years ago, the accessories from today's lineup are still compatible with the standard chair models. Call (920) 301-3822 if you're not sure whether an accessory fits an older chair.
Which Vyper accessories work with the Low-Pro and Robust Steel Pro stools?
The Big Boy is not compatible with the Low-Pro, but is compatible with the Robust Steel Sport. The Tool Tray and Sidekick are designed primarily for the Robust Steel Max and Elevated Steel Max chair frames. For a stool-specific tool-holding solution, the Robust Steel Pro ships with a built-in stationary tool tray as a standard feature, no add-on required.
